Online Education and Assessment Committee: Proctoring Options

Testing Options

Faculty teaching online courses have several testing options where security and academic dishonesty
are concerns.
1) GeorgiaVIEW quiz settings provide a line of defense against cheating by allowing/disallowing
several functions:
a. For hybrid courses, a synchronous quiz can be set to be live when students are in class
only.
b. Regulate number of questions presented at a time.
c. Prevent viewing previous questions after progressing forward.
d. Shuffle questions to prevent sharing answers in sequence to peers.
e. Disable some device functions like email, IM, Alerts also prevents the sharing of
information with peers.
f. Customize quiz results to prevent publishing questions with answers.

2) Respondus Lockdown Browser (LDB) is a custom browser providing a higher level of defense by
locking down the entire testing environment. Settings prevent various activities on the device
until the quiz is submitted.
a. Browser is set to full screen and can’t be minimized.
b. Toolbar and menus are removed preventing access to other tools suchas printing,
screen capture, copying/pasting, etc.
c. Right-click is disabled.

3) Respondus Monitor is a true remote proctoring solution requiring a webcam to record the
entire testing session using the foundation of LDB.
a. Flagged events provide the professor an activity summary of the student’s testing
behavior and environment. The professor does not have to sit through an entire testing
environment for each student.
b. The student is required to provide different levels of id, personal presence, and
surroundings.

*Use caution when using offsite testing. Some vendors may not provide academic dishonesty testing
measures such as Respondus
