Government Documents  

The Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) was established by Congress to ensure that the American public has access to its Government's information.

Government Documents are cataloged in GIL the Library's Catalog. Many of the documents in the catalog have links to their online versions. 

The various government publications owned by the library are shelved in three areas.

• Paper, microfiche, and CD/DVD documents are in the West Wing. Paper and discs are intershelved in the GovDoc stacks, and microfiche are in cabinets by the Government Documents Office.
• Maps are in map cabinets in the East Wing near the parking lot windows.

The Derrell C Roberts Library & North Georgia College & State University are selective federal depositories serving the citizens of the Ninth Congressional District. The University of Georgia in Athens is Georgia's Regional Depository which receives copies of all documents available through the FDLP.

The Roberts Library Depository has approximately 100,000 publications from many federal government departments and agencies including Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Health and Human Services, Interior, Justice, Labor, NASA, President, IRS, and Congress.

Since 1996, the Federal Government has been migrating documents from tangible formats to the Internet, so some documents can only be found on agencies' websites.
