All graduates participating in the ceremony must wear their academic regalia! Commencement is an occasion marking a special time in a student's academic career. Appropriate attire for the occasion is a navy-blue academic gown and mortarboard with no personal accessories or messages.
Stoles:
Only candidates for bachelor’s degrees may wear a stole. These stoles are sold as part of the bachelor’s degree regalia from Herff Jones. Stoles may also be purchased from the Dalton State Bookstore. No other stoles should be worn.
If you have an institutional GPA of 3.5 or above, you will receive an honor cord to wear when you pick up your tickets from Enrollment Services.
Student members of academic honor societies may wear the insignia or honor cord of that honor society. Only cords indicating academic achievement are allowed.
Pins from social fraternities/sororities or DSC registered student organizations may be worn on the baccalaureate stole.
You may wear only approved cords, stoles or medallions denoting academic achievement with your regalia. No unapproved medallions, stoles, or cords.
Only the flat, top area of the mortarboard may be decorated, and adornments must lay flat on the surface of the cap. Cap decorations that are motivated by animosity against a person or group because of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, national origin, religion, or creed, or which infringe on the rights and freedom of others will not be tolerated. Decorations may not include the following:
Profanity
Symbols for or references to alcohol or controlled substances
Three-dimensional objects
Flowers crowns.
Note: This is not an exhaustive list and any adornment or message deemed inappropriate or determined to pose a safety risk, will not be permitted. For questions concerning these guidelines, email Janet G Hayes at jghayes@daltonstate.edu .
