Mission Statement

The Course Redesign Project at Dalton State was initiated by our Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Sandra Stone and is a result of the greater ongoing American Association of State Colleges & Universities (AASCU) Red Balloon Project on Re-Imagining Undergraduate Education.  Here at DSC the initiative is supported in part by Foundation funds and serves to achieve Goal 5 Objective 1 of our Strategic Plan which focuses on enhancing “excellence in undergraduate education by improving teaching quality.”  Over 60 faculty and staff members are participating in the project working to create implementation plans for redesigning their courses.

Tewksbery Cutting Edge Course Design

During the Spring 2012 semester, faculty discussion groups will review the tutorial developed by Barbara J. Tewksbury (Hamilton College) and R. Heather Macdonald (College of William and Mary).

What is this tutorial designed to help you do?

  • Articulate goals for a course or portion of a course.
  • Build a course or portion of a course that meets those goals and assesses student learning.
  • Explore a variety of teaching techniques that emphasize student engagement and that place responsibility for learning on the students.
  • Develop a plan for a rigorous, effective, and innovative course.
