FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law designated to protect the privacy of a student's educational records. It applies to schools recieving funds through the U.S. Department of Education.
Once a student enters a college or turns 18 years old, parents rights under FERPA transfer to the student. Information from his/her students record is typically not shared unless he/she gives written permission or in a certain health or safety emergency.
